Frequently asked questions.

What is a fiduciary?

A fiduciary is a person who puts their client’s interests ahead of their own by adhering to the highest ethical standards of practice. I am a fiduciary – this is a fundamental value of mine, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Why should I hire you instead of doing this myself?

Although you could manage your finances on your own, hiring Simplicity Financial can give you peace of mind and optimize your financial picture. We help clarify your values and goals to create and execute a plan personalized for you. We have the expertise to help you maximize your financial situation. The most important thing we do at Simplicity Financial is to help you take action. We not only work with you to develop the plan, but we also work with you every step of the way to put it into practice.

Who is your typical client?

We work with young professionals and small business owners who are hard working and driven, but want professional guidance and expert support when it comes to their finances. We are looking to build long-term relationships with you in order to keep you accountable and help you achieve your maximum potential.

Many of our clients are young professionals who are struggling with balancing the many aspects of their financial picture - budgeting to buy a house, paying off their student loans, or looking to start a family, for example. We can help you walk the tightrope and find the correct balance to achieve your goals.

Do I have to pay for the first meeting?

No, the first meeting is free and is about getting to know one another. Together, we take a glimpse of the big picture view of your financial situation and touch on your goals. From there, we decide if we are a good fit to work together.

What is your investment philosophy?

At Simplicity Financial, we believe in passive investment management. We work to keep your fees low as possible, harvest losses for tax efficiency, and rebalance your investments to keep you in line with your objectives. We make sure your asset allocation aligns with your risk tolerance and your goals. We focus on these items because these are the things we can control.

Do I have to come to your office?

While we love seeing out clients’ smiling faces, we understand that time is precious. That is why we also utilize video-conferencing technology in order to make things as convenient as possible. This also allows us to work with people all over the country. We try to meet our clients in person at least once at the initial meeting if possible, but understand that the flexibility of video-conferencing is what often leads our clients to our practice.

What is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation?

Most consumers believe that all financial planners are "certified," but this isn't true. Anyone can call themselves a "financial planner''; however, only those who have fulfilled the certification requirements of the CFP Board can display the CFP® certification marks. As a CFP, I represent a high level of competency, ethics, and professionalism as outlined by the CFP board that is reflected in my work with my clients.

The CFP® certification is recognized in the United States and a number of other countries for its (1) high standard of professional education; (2) stringent code of conduct and standards of practice; and (3) ethical requirements that govern professional engagements with clients. – See more at the CFP Board's website.

How do you get paid?

We are a fee-only financial planning firm, which means our only compensation comes from the services we provide to you. We do not get paid any commissions, kick backs, “trails,” or any other fees other than from the fees we charge you. We are held to the fiduciary standard, which means we act in your best interest, regardless of the compensation we receive. We believe this is the fairest form of compensation and aligns our interests with yours. To learn more about our services and pricing, click here.
